Serve

Connect Others, Create Community

Service has been at the heart of my experiences, shaping both my college journey and community involvement. As an NC State Goodnight Scholar and organizer of Service Raleigh initiatives, along with my role as the campaign intern for The Elaine Marshall Committee, I have witnessed firsthand the power of collective effort to create lasting impact. This page highlights my commitment to service, collaboration, and building a stronger, more inclusive community.

The Goodnight Scholarships office invests in students from low- and middle-income families in North Carolina studying in STEM or STEM education disciplines. The Program empowers Goodnight Scholars to “pay it forward” as transformational leaders at NC State, in North Carolina, and in the world.

The Goodnight Scholarship has prepared me to become a force for innovation and a driver of positive change.

Service Raleigh is an annual citywide day of service started in 1998 by NC State's Student Government and Park Scholars. Each year, volunteers from the university and surrounding community unite to undertake a variety of projects, each of which provides much needed assistance to local organizations. Service Raleigh is funded by the Park Foundation, the Goodnight Scholars Program, NCSU Student Government, NCSU Inter-Residence Council, and local donors.

Participating in Service Raleigh has given me the opportunity to serve, lead, and strengthen both NC State and the larger Research Triangle Park community through service.

2024 North Carolina Secretary of State Election Campaign

Campaign Intern; Mar 2024 - Nov 2024

My Internship in Review

Look up any of Secretary Marshall’s speeches, and you’ll see her “1, 2, 3” approach.

One afternoon, she explained,

“As a woman, people tend to dismiss what you say as one big pile of nothing. However, after you’ve accomplished what I have, I've found that people often overlook my qualifications. I emphasize three main points so that they recognize me as an intelligent, focused, and powerful woman.”

I often reflect on that conversation in my own life. Through this internship—which I stumbled upon in a rather humorous way—I have gained many lifelong lessons that extend far beyond the skills listed on this page.

With that in mind, I thought I would format my own statement into a “1, 2, 3:"

The Secretary and I celebrated the campaign kickoff for City Councilman, Jonathon Melton.

1.

Working with The Elaine Marshall Committee

Showed me that while the world can be daunting, people are kind.

Throughout my time on the committee, I
have encountered countless individuals
willing to lend a hand or share their stories. This kindness has reinforced the
importance of community and support in times of uncertainty.

2.

Drove me to recognize the significance of networking and the power of knowledge.

I have realized that building relationships is vital in all areas of life. By connecting with diverse individuals and absorbing their insights, I have gained a deeper understanding of the issues and the strategies needed to address them effectively.

I have witnessed firsthand how individuals--regardless of their backgrounds and experiences, can make a significant impact on the world around them. Whether through grassroots efforts or personal advocacy, I have learned that every voice matters and can contribute to meaningful change.

3.

Demonstrated that anyone can affect change in their own way.

Secretary Marshall has inspired me to become the woman I always aspire to be. Her impact on North Carolina has been monumental, and her influence on my life has been pivotal.
